NAITHAWK® latest listing TA.1 and TA.2 use D2 stainless steel, carbon content is more than 1%, chrome more than 10%, it can reach 60-62 HRC. It has super sharpness, abrasion resistance and toughness. In order to apply D2 material into full play, we spend a lot of energy to the study of material composition to achieve a good balance of the hardness, toughness and edge retention. It shows the achievement of the extraordinary product performance after many experiments.

 Many friends will ask, what is the special processing craft to achieve extraordinary performance? We adopted vacuum heat treatment. The characteristic of vacuum heat treatment is the temperature stability. Metal elements won't evaporate or overflow under the vacuum state and can keep good maintenance material characteristic. In order to keep every blade with the same hardness and internal organizational structure, we put blade flat separately on vacuum furnace with only 100 knives each time (Generally, vacuum furnace can handle 2000 pieces this kind blades.) Because of the high carbon content of D2, it can get excellent sharpness after vacuum heat, but it is easy to rust and toughness is relatively poor. So we carried on the nitriding processing after the vacuum heat treatment in order to enhance toughness and rust protection performance. Nitriding processing is one kind of chemical heat treatment process , it forms a rich nitrogen hardening layer after nitrogen atom into the surface of the steel. The blade with nitriding treatment has high hardness, wear resistance, good fatigue strength and corrosion resistance. Nitriding process is long to 36 hours in steel phase transition temperature below (450-600℃), so it ensures every blade to get a thick nitriding layer.
  Why NAITHAWK® use so excellent material, but only 58 HRC? That is because TA1, TA2 product positioning is the fashion, portable multifunctional EDC knife. As a EDC knife, the most important is toughness and sharpness stability, so we reduce the hardness to get a better sharpness keep ability and product toughness.
